45-70 Leverevolution?
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:43:12 PM »
Anybody use Hornady Leverevolution 325 gr. in a 45-70 Contender?  I've only shot my 10" ported 45-70 barrel with some 300 gr. jacketed HP "1886 safe" marked handloads. Just wondering how the Hornady ammo shoots.

I have not shot the 45-70 ammo, but I did shoot some leverevolution 30-30 ammo. My barrel was not impressed. Each barrel is an individual, and mine just didn't like it. I've seen reports from others that did however.

I would NOT shoot "1886" level ammo from your Contender!

According to T/C, it's "trapdoor loads" only in the Contender frame.

I've shot it with ok results.  I don't like the fact that the brass is short.  Honestly, it's getting difficult to find any other loads for the 45/70 where I live other than Leverevolution.  It's about all I see at the range being shot anymore.
