HMR now has a primer fired igniter
« on: August 23, 2012, 11:30:04 AM »
Here is a look at my new firing system . This is the prototype mounted on a BC mortar .

This also shows how to mount an elevation screw on a bed that was not designed for one

And a bit more detail on the firing mech. itself . Uses 209 shotgun primers . Simple inline striker . A lot of off the shelf parts . I expect several refinements in the near future .

It has a hair trigger , almost too light , hence the positive safety pin .  I will test fire this week end . Smoke & fire to come .  ;D  Armorer77

Really looks like a great setup!  Love the elevation mod and would be interested in one of your primer fired igniters as well..... ;)

Can you share some of the details on the specific parts your used for your elevation rig?  Was thinking of putting something like this together but your rig looks better than what I was thinking of doing....

The elevation screw is 3/8-16 threaded rod . The handle is a faucet handle tapped to 3/8-16 with an acorn nut . The mount was made by welding 2 pieces of 3/16 by 1 1/4" angle back to back . This was cut and milled to the desired .800" height .  I then cut a light groove with a ball end mill to assure the alignment . The barrel is a piece of 3/4" drilled & tapped 3/8-16 . All but 1/2" of the thread was cut away to a clearance .
Jeff is moving tomorrow so the final test of the new ignitor will be late in the day .  It has already entered it's third modification . All I have done so far is pop primers . "Sometimes you gotta build one , to find out what you don't know . " Ed

Thanks!  Much appreciated!
