slide interchangeability question
« on: September 23, 2012, 09:11:10 AM »
Will an upper off of a double stack pistol fit onto a single stack lower?  Any feed ramp issues or other fit up issues?  Thanks.

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

There may be feed ramp issues. Is your pistol ramped or not? If not then it should fit another unramped lower. If it is ramped then you would have to match ramps. There are a couple of different types. Two for sure.

However, getting it onto a single stack lower is not all. Not all lowers are dimensionally identical. In particular the slide lock lever hole may be more toward the muzzle or further from the muzzle. Look for the slide to line up with the back of the lower. Then, does the barrel lock up correctly? If you can push the barrel down in the ejection port then you have a problem. Even if you cannot move the barrel does not mean it is correct.

Bottom line, have a trusted pistolsmith check it for you. It will be worth the money for peace of mind and not damaging your equipment.
