whats your "magic wand"???
« on: August 12, 2012, 08:59:44 AM »
Just curious as to what everyones "magic wand" is, you know, that 1 shotgun that when you point it in the general direction of game it just dies!! Mine would be my benelli M2 American 12ga. I just plain hit with that gun, cycles anything i feed it, goes bang everytime i pull the trigger and generally kills anything i point it at. Its my one gun thats covered in scratches from the goose/duck blinds but yet will outshoot alot of them "pretty" guns. Feel free to include pictures of yours!

Mine is a 20 ga Benelli Montefeltro.
Not a great wingshooter, but I did start getting the limit on doves before dark when I started using it.
Shot 5 quail from one flush once.
No scratches on mine, but I won't cry if it gets one; it will be a memeory.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

Mine is my Beretta 303. Have to admit it won't eject my light red dot target loads though. Sure have killed a lot of rabbits with it.

I am lucky as I have two. Started in the early 1970s with a Ithica Model 37 featherlite choked mod 12ga.. I've had great luck when hunting useing it. Love the bottom eject when Duck hunting on a beaver pond from a camoed boat as the hulls land in the bottom of the boat and not in the water.
I love partrage hunting and the season starts in mid Sept. here when the leaves are still on. Got to be really quick to score on them. I bought a Beretta silver snipe 20ga. OU 26inch barrels choked cylinder and cylinder. It is a quick swinging shot gun and I've collected many a pat with it. One year I was doing so well My friend kept saying I must be shooting them off tree limbs.
I also have a 12ga silver snipe but haven't did much hunting with it so far.

Beretta 390, I don't shoot it as much anymore, but it used to handle all my crappy loads from a Lee Load-all and hard Fed Gold Medal hulls with pretty ugly crimps. Never failed to cycle any of them. It was/is hell on pheasants.

When it comes to shotguns, my old Remington model 1900 has been a good friend.  My dad bought it in the 40's but it was actually made in 1905.  Although i grew up with it in my hands, it didn't really became mine until the early 80's...

Dad shot quite a few deer with this shot gun, and a boat load of ducks too.

He also shot a huge load of pheasants, grouse, rabbits with it too,

I "fixed it up a little",

but it's still the old friend i had growing up!  Last time i hunted pheasants with it, my dog flushed two roosters and i made a right and a left.  I picked up the birds, and we didn't go a hundred yards, before my dog flushed another pair of roosters and i made another right and a left!

Now that's the way a shotgun should fit you!

Although I've got a couple of newer ones over the years My absolute favorite is still my old 1967 Ithaca M37 Featherlight 20 gauge with a modified choke.

It's easy to carry on long hunts and despite what I've heard from experts, The little 20 has dumped pheasant, a couple turkeys, and a fox or 2 along with smaller game for years and I'll never part with it.

Bought a used Ithaca 37 Deluxe in the mid-60`s. Put a Deluxe-Poly choke on it and never looked back.
As I`m left handed, I got a bonus from the get go.  As some have said, load what you want,  pull the trigger and off it goes.  Smooth as silk and pretty to look at.  :)

I'd have to say depends on what I'm hunting.   Early season grouse is a special order Huglu SxS 28 ga. with 30" bbls. choked IC & F.  Later on is a Uggie Gr. 3 16 ga. 27.5" bbls. choked IC & M.  Waterfowl hunting would have to say if only had 1 choice would be my Browning 2000 12ga. with the 3"/30" bbl. with Briley steel chokes.  Sorry can not pick just 1 shotgun.  My Browning 2000 is my do it all I guess as I have 3 barrels.: 30" with a 3" chamber with Briley Steel tubes, 28" with a 2.75" chamber with TruLock chokes and a slug barrel which is not rifled but with an excellent set of factory rifle sights.  This would probably cover my whole fall hunting needs may be I should try it once.

In the late 70's I walked into a local Wally world, and they had an O/U on the rack, and you never saw O/U's there. It was a mistake, they had sent a wrong gun, so they had it on clearance, a Savage/ Valmet 333T trap gun. $239.95. I/M & Full fixed chokes, 30" tubes. It seems like you could lead a bird so far that you had to shoot and have a sandwich while he flew into the pattern. Unfortunately, there are far less grain farmers or feedlots to draw birds these days here. But 15 years ago.....wow. The gun is just as good as ever, just waiting.
