TM, I have a question for you. Do you think that the ''Pandora's Box'' on this food crisis has been opened?? Looking at rising energy price's, the drought, high tension political turmoil in the Mideast, doesn't look good does it!!
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

I've brought this up many times and have been criticized for it many times. BUT! I wills say it again. Farm subsidies are given to the farmers not to support them, but to control them. Monsanto Seed Corp. basically controls the world food supply in the way of food production. They have the strongest lobby in D.C. and have bought many a Congressman, and Senator. The government offers these subsidies, and plays on the greed of the farmer. They (the farmer) signs up for the subsidies, and in many cases around here, signs up their wife or another family member, such as one of their children.
This combined with the ethanol subsidies, will in fact cause a world wide food shortage, possibly in the not too distant future, that will be catastrophic for some countries dependent on foreign aide.

I have always been concerned about the genetically modified seed and plants they produce. If you have ever farmed, which I have, and you look at the grain / crops you produce, and think about the fact that you can save sacks of that grain and plant it next year and get.......NOTHING. That is scary as hell when I think about it. Where I live , even with heavy watering, I have not gotten diddly squat this year. The blooms dropped in the heat, they were eaten by birds, the bees were few and far between, and several plants were not as labeled when I bought bedding plants. I know the heirlooms do not produce as well, but they at least reproduce. People need to seriously look at carrying capacity, and maybe not cut back to it, but at least not always count on the best case scenario.
