INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana health officials say they have investigated 10 human cases of West Nile virus statewide.
The Indiana State Department of Health said Wednesday that human cases have been identified in Allen, Fulton, Hamilton, Hancock, Jackson, Monroe, Marion, Tippecanoe and Vanderburgh counties.
The department disclosed last week that an Evansville-area resident had died from the mosquito-borne illness.
The agency says West Nile transmission within the mosquito population is higher than in previous years and that Indiana residents should take steps to protect themselves. It says that so far in 2012, mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found in 67 Indiana counties, compared with 34 counties in 2011.

I believe I've had it for the past couple of weeks.  I had all the symptoms.

Happily, the West Nile Virus is not dangerous except to the very elderly and people with damaged immune symptons.  In the vast majority of cases, people recover in just a few days.

West Nile hit Memphis about 10 years ago, and I got it.  It was like having a bad case of the flu, but without the severe nasal or sinus problems.  I was fine after 5 days, and am now immune for life.

I believe that swine flu and bird flu are what you really have to worry about.
