Does anyone here have any comments about using a Baikel 12 gauge O/U for clays or dove?

One of the guys I sheet shoot with has a Baikel shotgun that he bought quite cheaply. It seems to shoot well and he breaks as many birds as usual. The gun is obviously in expensive so we don't know how well it will hold up to sustained shooting of skeet or clays. One thing that might help insure longer life is to use a good quality gun grease on the hinge pin and sides of the breech along with any other areas of wear. I do this religously on all my o/u's and they are all still tight after tens of thouseand of rounds. The Bailel is obviously made to be inexpensive and go for the o/u market. The fit and finish is ok on the one I looked at, I am not crazy for the looks of the receiver though, but then too, I have seen a couple of Perazzi's that didn't excite me either. My buddy has not torn it down yet  or removed the stock to get a look inside. We both suspect that the internal workings will be rough and of less quality of finish than say a Browning. But  again, with luck "you get what you pay for" and sometimes you are pleasently surprised. Good luck with it and keep the world posted on how well it works.

i have been looking at alot of these at the local gun shows.  one think i have noticed is alot of bent ribs, keep an eye out for that.  if you buy one, make sure you look it over WELL.  i have seen alot of variations from gun to gun.  i'm sure you can find some good ones, just keep your eyes open for some of the bad ones

I have two of the Baikal over and under shotguns in 12 ga. I bought the first one about four years and put around 4000 rounds through with no problems.
The second is the sporting model I bought 3 weeks ago. WOW what a over and under for under 500.00! If the sporting model does as well as my first one does I will be a happy camper. I must say on the sporting model I replaced the front bead with a HiViz sight.
Be carefull where you shoot!
