Eye sight changes as we age

I just turned 57. I have been required to have corrected vision to drive since I got my license at 14. Had to get bifocals in my mid 40s. From around then on use of iron sites became quite a bit more difficult. I could wear glasses and see the sights well but the target was fuzzy or I could take off my glasses and the sights were fuzzy but the target was more clear. During the last couple of years I noticed that except for real close up stuff like reading I was seeing as good or better without my glasses. Had my eyes checked and sure enough my distance vision is close to 20/20 and was able to get the glasses restriction removed from my license. The best part is without glasses on I can see iron sights and the target clearly. It sure has helped improve my handgun shooting. Anyone here had a similar experience? I wonder how long this may last. Sure is nice in the meantime.

I am 59 and need reading glasses 2x to read up close. I am 20-20 on distance. I like a ghost ring or peep site on levers or military rifles. I use scopes on my deer rifles.

That is interesting. I've never heard of that happening.
(My hearing changed after I got married, and it became a lot more selective regarding chores and such. It's nice to see the senses can sharpen for more important things, like shooting.)

I use a brt white on my front ironsites pistol and rifle. I've worn glasses since grade school. Before I got these walmart glasses a few years ago I could see the sites just fine. I have a scope on one 22 and a red dot on another. My pistol shooting I can see the front but the back is kinda blurry. When I get rich I'm gonna get some good glasses. POWDERMAN.

I'm 67 and have 20-20 distance vision and also got the glasses restriction removed from my driver's license several years ago.
I retired in '95 and the last few years I worked my distance vision was so poor that walking down hallways or meeting folks in the large storage buildings I really couldn't see a face until I was right on them. I wasn't even able to clearly see if it was a man or woman unless the woman had a dress on (rare in the warehouse) or had very large breasts that I could see.
My vision was 20-250 in my right eye and 20-80 in my left eye. Even with glasses it didn't clear up to 20-20. Some time after retirement I noticed my prescription glasses were just blurring everything so I stopped wearing them and noticed the world was a lot more clear. I actually could see leaves on trees rather than just a green blurr. I was actually able to see individual pine needles high in pine trees.
I went to an eye doctor and began to be treated for dry eyes and my vision cleared to 20-20 unaided. I can't see nuttin up close without reading glasses but my distance vision is fine these days. It begins clearing around 2' and I can even see the front sight on my iron sighted handguns again.
