Drilling Help

I have a Richard Marhoff & Sohns drilling and I need to find the three small leaf springs that operate the internal hammers. One is cracked, on broken off and one is still good but I want it replaced since the gun is apart anyway. The gun is with the gunsmith now (who is knowledgable about combo guns) and he is searching his sources for suitable springs. He has asked me to search any sources I may have on the internet as well, so here I am.
Any ideas for sources of these types of spring?
I haver posted this on the drilling and combo guns forum here at GBO as well. I sent an email to New England Custom Guns and am awaiting a reply. I have also posted on the German Gun Collectors site and the Double Gun site.

You might contact DixieGunworks as they have a tremendous number of leaf springs. While they were made for some other firearm they may be modifiable to your purpose. I assume you've attempted to contact the maker assuming they are still in operation.. keep us up to speed on your progress..we may have to get crazy and just make the springs ourselves...!

Thanks for the reply, gunnut69. I misspelled the maker name on my drilling - it's Marholt. I got an email from New England Custom Guns and they said to send them one of the springs and they might be able to match it or order it from Germany or Austria.. why do I get the feeling this ain't gonna be cheap?
I just want to get the thing fixed. I forgot about DGW. If NECG can't match it I'll get ahold of them. BTW I guess they are called 'V' springs, not leaf springs. Shows how much I know about springs, I guess.

'V' springs are what I assuned you were speaking of. They are but one form a leaf spring may take.. If NECG can't help and DGW can't either let me know. I enjoy a good challenge. Unfortunately cheap is not likely..good luck.! Jerry

Thanks Jerry. I'll definitely let you know how this all turns out. I'm heading to my 'smith's shop today to pick up one of the springs to send to NECG. Wish me luck.

Correct. Springs have to be custom made. The most crucial thing with making new V-springs is the tempering.

I sent one of the cracked springs to NECG two days ago and am awaiting their reply. Mark - the guy who emailed me - says they have a large variety of springs from other guns and they may be able to help. I hope so. I sure hope I don't have to have the springs made because the cost will probably cause this project to go on the backburner for a while.

Get ya a book, a torch, and some files and a pair of tin snips.  If they can't help you can try making your own...but waiting for experience might be a better option if you have never done it.
