My 28 gauge is on the way
« on: September 01, 2012, 11:23:31 AM »

I finally went down to my local supplier today and ordered myself a new .28 gauge. I'd been thinking about it for some time and just couldn't put it off any more. I've looked for them used, no way. I figure they aren't going to get any cheaper so now is the time. I also had them order 2 boxes of slugs at the same time.

    Now to wait...

Had a 28 ga accessory barrel for my 30-30 handi.
Shot a lot of quail with it once I figured out that the taper of the barrel meant I needed to aim low.
Had a lot of FTF's, thought it was the ammo but read here that it might have been because of the smaller SB2 firing pin.
Your SB1 firing pin is fatter so it shouldn't be a problem.

good luck with it.

you know, i don't think i've ever
seen any 28 gauge slugs in this area.
if they shoot good, you may ought to
go back and get a case if you intend
on using them often.

Congrats! The .28 gauge has a faithful following, I'm sure they'll chime in! What length barrel and what choke did you order? Should be a nice, light rig whichever one you get... 8)

Brenneke starting making slugs for the 28 gauge a few years ago. As far as I know these are the only ones made in this gauge. I only ordered 2 boxes to start with. If they shoot OK I'll get more.

Probably one of the most fun guns I have ever owned, they are great for everything until you get up to the larger ducks. I load 6's and 9's usually, expensive ammo is the only drawback, so I just bought a loader. I have been at it for close to 20 years now, but just had a handi for the last 5-6 years. You will love it I guarantee.

I've been thinking that I wanted something a little lighter for some time. For most of the things I shoot I don't even need a 20 ga any more but I'm thinking the .410 isn't quite enough. This should fill the bill quite nice.
This is a 26 or 28" barrel, I don't recall, but it has a Mod. choke.

It should be a 26in barrel.  The choke is correct.

Mine shoots like a dandy.

.....

Yes, My son had the same problem with the barrel taper.  I got him a H&R 28 ga for his first shotgun.  At 25 yds the entire shot pattern was over the point of aim.
