What do you guys do for hearing protection when hunting with Encores and Contenders?  Some calibers can have some nasty noise/blast, especially 10 inch barrels.

I use a Game Ear in each ear or electronic muffs in cold weather---both at the range and in the woods.  pg

I have been fortunate on two occations to be in the right place at the right time and had enough time to insert my ear plugs. Usually wear a game ear and a plug or have something avalable and ALWAYS wear something when just shooting even if it's just a 22.

I use electronic hearing protectors from ProEars.  They let me hear while I hunt and protect my hearing when I shoot.  I have never fired my contenders without protection, ever.

E-muffs. Tried the rubber ear plugs with a string, but the deer can move by you too fast (or varmits especially).  I have the old kind made by Silver Creek.  I have never fired my pistols without protection and I am sure I don't want to.  By the way, I always keep a set of plugs in my holster when deer hunting just in case the e-muffs take a dive out of the tree. (yes it has happened).

I also switched to the e-muffs because it seems to add balance to my shooting.   I can't stand the total silence from the plugs.

What I do is:
I got a little screw-in hook and put it just above my head. I will then set a pair of normal ear muffs that i have painted camo on them. When I see or even hear a deer I will slowly reach up and slide them over my ears, doing this also puts my hands very close to my contender and it only takes a few seconds to put them on and have the gun in my hand.

I have a nice 10 inch 22 L.R. barrel I would love to trade for a good set of electronic hearing muffs.

Hearing protection while hunting?? Why?? I shoot Pistols and Revolvers from at least a 16 foot ladder stand and more often up to 25 feet from a climbing stand. When deer hunting I usually take only one shot and have not used any sort of protection except (and don't laugh at this) for a digital hearing aid in the left ear. I have to be able to pick up the deer's movement noises and most of my shots are under 25 yards. My hearing loss was from Jet Fighter engines on the flight line during the 1960's and not from the five or ten shots taken at deer per year from a tree stand.  Now while shooting any other way, I do use molded ear plugs as well as muffs, & sometimes both at the bench. What ya say?? Eh??  cbagman
