I was just curios if a round and it could be a wildcat is out thier that in a contender has a point blank range of around 300 yards ? This would be for use as a deer or black bear round .

Thank you,
Erik F.

It depends on how "big" your PBR target is. Most PBR's are figured at 6-8". Personally I use 4-5" more often. In any case (no pun) I don't know for sure of any round that will have a 6" PBR of 300 yds, out of a Contender. In general, most of the time you need a streamline bullet between 2800 and 3000fps, to PBR a 6-8" at 300 yds. The Contender can't get there, at least not in an appropriate deer caliber. There may be some JDJ's that get out a ways. And the 7-30 waters is a nice round. But I don't think they will do what you are asking. Now, if you choose something specific I could "run" it and give you specific's. :D

309JDJ or 308 Bellm will get the job done nicely, even on big deer.  There are smaller rounds that will get the job done, but these are my choices.  I don't consider the 7x30 out of a shorter barrel as a 300 yard gun...but I do have a 24 inch 7x30 that is pretty good out to 250 or so.  then again, I don't really ever shoot that far.
