  I have been to Grice gun shop a few times. They seem to have about anything a person would want. I had looked all over locally for a holster for my scoped Contender. Found nothing. Walked into Grice and they had just what i wanted.

Nice place, you want to hit the nick and ding sale, sometimes you can get a pretty good deal. And the car museum is worth the drive up.

Probably was there about 15 years or so ago.  I used to purchase all my reloading stuff and several handguns/rifles from the Clearfield store.  Bob’s Army and Nave was also visited during the journey…

But the last journey there—it’s about 80 miles—I decided that I couldn’t save any money due to the prices seeming a bit higher and with the price of gasoline ever climbing.  Today it would be completely cost prohibiative…

From that time on, I have purchased via mail order or I have purchase a half-dozen handguns from a local dealer.  He will order what you want—ya, there might be a few days wait, but I have compared prices at Grice’s and locally I did better.  Plus, if I had a problem, it was only a few miles drive to the gunshop…

My reloading powder I purchase only bulk amounts now from Powder Valley.  If one makes a $300.00+ order of primers and powders, there is no comparison either locally or at Grice’s.  At least that is what I found during comparisons…

I will admit that I haven’t done any comparisons lately as I have just stayed with mail order…

But yes, at one time, the journey to Grice’s Gun Shop was always a pleasure…

Grice does a lot of wholesale business with gunshops.  Many times, you can buy, from a gunshop, a particular firearm that came from Grice's and pay less than if you bought it at retail from Grice.

I believe your are correct--I know you are correct...

Two of the handguns I purchased locally I am sure came from Grice's...

Very true, the last two rifles I bought, I did a comparison. I bought both Rifles from Bee in Saltsburg; the price quoted to me by Grice on the phone was $40.00 more per rifle than Bee. The one exception is the annual nick & dent sale at Grice. But even then you need to be careful. Some years back I lived in Delaware, and the Gun shop I dealt with then ordered 90% of his guns from Grice.
I think Grice has such a large  whole sale business,  retail is just a side line for them.

  In the 60's and 70's, Grice's was THE place to buy..he sold guns very reasonably..I don't think in those days many could compete with his prices..But times change, and I think the policies of the arms makers also had something to do with the change in prices..his old staff was EAGER to wait on customers..and very helpful..   I still stop in when I visit the area,. mostly just to browse the used stuff..He still has some good deals, but not like the OLD DAYS....  His son has taken the reins, and of course changes have taken place..BUT you are LUCKY to have such a fine selection of guns and assorted gear in one store..honestly, I know of none like it and I check every gunshop I can when traveling....

Grice's has more guns in it's used rack than a lot of places have in their new racks. I live about 70 mi. from them, but have a camp up in that country about 25 mi. from the store and I'm usually in there several times a year. Actually, I just bought a really nice Ruger 77/22 in .22 Hornet out of their used rack. Not a mark on it. Prices can vary, but when you buy at a local store, you don't have to pay shipping charges and registration filing fees as you do when you buy mail-order or from on-line auction sites.
     It's definitely true... Grice's is not the same 'ol place it was 30 or more years ago.. neither are we.

   I know they will give you a good raking over if you want to sell your gun!!! My Son took a Ruger #1 in to trade, offered Him $300.00 for it. They had the same exact Gun, caliber and condition, in the used Rack for $700.00 Told them they need to include some Preparation X in their" Deals".....

I've always liked Grices' selection, but their customer service has always sucked.

In the 22 years I've been buying guns I've only managed to get someone to assist me at the counter once to buy a gun.   I've walked out of there countless times with my license and money in my hand because they were too busy looking through a book or on the computer.   ...even when I was the only person at the counter.  They probably lost 20 gun sales from me alone because of being ignored.

Bob's Army-Navy a few blocks away has much better customer service, but no where the selection.

Knight, you are right about the service..things are a bit better, b ut no where near what is was in the old days..when the shop first opened, I am pretty certain the salesmen got a cut from each gun  they sold..you could not walk though the door without getting all the help you wanted..especially if you were known to them at all...there was a long period of years I did not buy there because I live in another state..since retiring, I visit there a couple times a year..you would never know it is the same store..Another decent place for service and a fair number of guns is Mahoning Valley Feed in Punxy...but this year I tried to buy a heavy barreled Rem. Lam. Varmiter in a .243...they didn't have it and Grice had three all with the locking bolt...so I am still looking...
