Handgun Scope- Which reticle???
« on: January 12, 2004, 10:32:54 AM »
I have a preference when it comes to the scopes on my hunting rifles of a "dot" reticle, either a floating dot or a dot on thin cross hairs.

I am new to pistol hunting and have recently set up an Encore in 7mm BR with a 4x Leupold handgun scope.  I was thinking of making a reticle change to a dot, but before I did, I wanted to ask the opinions of readers on this forum so that I may choose the right size dot, etc. or maybe stay with the duplex crosshairs.  Any advice??

Thanks,

Scott

I need something that is fast to acquire the sight picture, stands out even in brush or hardwoods, duplex works best for me.

burris ballistic plex. just as good as a duplex and gives you the ability to hold dead on your target for the longer shots. 7bru

For hunting big game, Duplex in my opinion.

If your sitting at a bench the dot may be fine but for hunting the duplex or heavy duplex is better. Beings the scope is farther from your eye than on a rifle it's a bit more difficult (for me anyway) to pick up a small fine reticle quickly.

Ditto on the Ballistic Plex Reticle from Burris.  Made it easy for a 416 yard shot on elk this year since the first dash below the main plex was zeroed @ 400 yards.

I have only had problems with fine crosshairs when I need to get a quick sight picture.
