By now it is well known that the GOP has inserted in it's platform a provision that
no foreign law take precedence over American law, here in the U.S. This is aimed at any foreign law being used to litigate any case, since SCOTUS judges have cited the wisdom of European and South African laws.
Rep. Keith Ellison (D, muslim, MN) took exception and tried to defend sharia law, saying this provision was unnecessary, because sharia law has never been recognized or utilized here in the U.S.
