Has anyone rechambered a Encore 12" 45 LC/410 factory bbl ?
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:58:41 AM »
Wondering if it would be safe to re-chamber my factory Encore 12" 45 Long Colt / 410 shot bbl to allow use of 454 Casull caliber in it ? Has anyone done this or have any experience with doing it ? Seems like a waste to get two bbl's and carry them with you when the original bbl could just be rechambered if need be, not sure as I haven't tryed to put a 454 Casull cartridge in the bbl for fit purposes... Anyway's any information would be appreciated...

TC doesn't make a 454 barrel for the contender because it's too hot for the frame to handle. The encore can take that round easily.  I asked the same question myself one time, but looking thru the caliber options for the contender will reveal that it's never offered in that round. The 454 will slip in to the 45/410 barrel but that doesn't mean it's ok to shoot. Good that you asked first tho. Go get a 460 sw barrel  and an encore and you can fire 454, 45 colt and 460 sw. TC only recomends 460 sw in their factory barrel, but lots of people fire the 45 colt and 454 rounds in them.

Sooo I'm guessing then that the 410 bbl doesn't have the strength to take the pressure of the 454 or the 460 either then... That's too bad as it would be nice to have one bbl for 45LC, 410 shot shells, 454 casull, and 460 S&W calibers... maybe using a 460 bbl and re cut the muzzle to allow for the choke tube to be able to be inserted... Might be easier going at this that way rather than the other... Thanks for your help...

This would be for a Encore frame...

i've got an encore frame, stock, and
forearm that i've yet to do anything
with, and have contenders and
several barrels that i've fiddled with.
i'd say err on the cautious side, but
i'm certainly unqualified on the encore
hot rodding as of yet.
contenders will take a bit of oomfph
with moderation, and the encore is
supposed to be way stronger, so i
would think it would take a bit more
juice. ???

gunbunnies, forget it. Get the 454 or 460bbl. The 410 has a very long chamber and thus a very long throat and bullet jump and poor accuracy for a 454 or 460.  Pat
