22 Maggin' the ground hogs!
« on: July 28, 2012, 04:55:16 AM »
Took a friend out this morning for her first ground Hog Hunt.  We set up on a farm around several outbuildings that had some good active holes. had the Marlin 22 Mag with us.  She got to experience her first ground hog kill!!

Here is her up close and personal shot and kill (13yds)

I took this one at 67yds

She missed one that was acutally bigger than the one I shot.  Still, though, we both  had a blast.  Shotting ground Hogs with a 22 mag is just too much darn fun!!
It's all a hot mess...........

:) Swift One, nice job...it is great to see a young huntress be successful...the .22 mag. never ceases to amaze me...I have had several over the years, but bought a CZ maybe three years ago...it has been a great addition to my battery..despite having a Hornet, .222, 223, Swifts, and .22-250's...When I travel it is one that almost always goes...here in Wy. it has been used on lots of varmits and small game..Bought 1500 CCI's of various bullet wt.s it shoots them all super...nice addition to any varmit shooters line up...much more powerful than the common .22... I used mine a great deal this summer for gr. squirrels and p. dogs..plus I killed my first Columbian Ground squirrel with it in Montana.. ;)

Just confirms what I read in Cosmopolitan magazine:
Chicks dig a guy with a 22 mag who knows where to find groundhogs. ;)

Congrats on a fine hunt! Hard to beat a .22WMR for the type of hunt you were on, thanks for the pics.

Anybody know what the fps is for CCI and Winchester 22 mag rounds. Don't have them here but I think the CCI is called maxi-mag and the winchester is off the shelf.

LOL, ya, she is a little mynx.  She is a member of the prison's K9 team (aggression dog), a qualified handgunner, rifleman, and shotgunner, and is a Quick Response Team tactical instructor.  Like a sis to me, and quite a handful for her boyfreind.   Keeps him in check for sure!!!!

I've done alittle work on my handi ultra 22mag. 22inch barrel.  couldnt get anything to shoot acceptable until new ammo came out with higher performance and velocities came on market.  cci maxi's in mine ran about 1550fps winchesters 40s ran 1590plus.  hornady 30vmaxs ran 2200 and a few.  winchester black box ran real close to advertised velocities 30hp ran 2200plus a couple. 34gr were alot slower  federal 30gr hp with speer bullets ran 2150 ish.  remington 33gr vmax ran appx 2100plus   Federals with speer 30hp shot good but didnt hold up to woodchucks with poor penetration.  Remingtons 33gr were by and away my favorite but priced me rite out of 22mag in.  hornadys were close but not quite as good.  all other std 40gr fmj and hp old style ammo shot about 1650 neighborhood. or less.  Reamer gets here mid week. mag will be a k hornet by next week end.  cost less to shoot better.  35gr vmaxs at close to 3thou  hope this helps
