No More .308 Handis??
« on: February 09, 2004, 04:14:20 PM »
Stopped in at wallyworld on my lunch break today to check the price on the handis. In the "special order" catalog under handi they didn't list .308.
I looked three times to make sure, they still had the .223, .243, .270, 30-06, but no .308 :( . Did I misunderstand and they only make the .308 in another style NEF rifle? I could have sworn I"ve seen posts with .308 handis before. I really had my heart set on one because my brother has a Winchester model 70 in .308 and I like this cartridge and we were going to buy ammo in bulk and split the cost  .
Looking forward to your replies, I know they will be informative as always :agree:

Just checked the 2004 catalog and the Handi-Rifle, Ultra and Survivor are all listed in 308.  I checked out Wally's catalog a while ago and some models they can get and others they can not.  Might want to try a local dealer.  May cost a little more but will get better service.   :-)

Yep, NEF makes a 308 handi rifle - SB2-208, Survivor SB2-608 (bull barrel), and H&R makes the ultra hunter SB2-808.

Evidently Walmart decided not to list the 308...

skoutfitter and scruffy,
Thanks for the quick replies :-)  How much more is the Survivor than the Handi, and what else is different besides the barrel?

skoutfitter...
Where did you get a 2004 catalog from?

SB2-208 - handi

SB2-608 - survivor

SB2-808 - Ultra

The price will depend on the gun shop, so shop around.

10 ga.

Got my survivor for $215.00.  Wally World had them in their catalog for $198.00 but said their supplier was out of them.  Chose the survivor because I like the bull barrels but did not like the stock so I replaced it and put the survivor stock on my ultra comp in .270.  I found the 2004 flyer at a local gun store so I there out there or you can call H&R and they will send you one.

editted to correct handi 308 model number from sb2-308 or sb2-208.

Sorry for the confusion.  I don't know why nef labeled the 308 or sb2-208 but they did....

Scruffy...
Went to the old site for some specs on the .308 Handi. They list it with the others in the links below the rifle picture for picture enlargement, but in the chart below the picture, the caliber or part number for it isn't listed.
The 7-08 isn't in the chart either(Not trying to run this in the ground, just curious)

They got the site all messed up right now....  Under the pardners they list a 12 gauge under the picture but don't in the specs.  The picture of the 30-30, 22 hornet, etc shows a montecarlo smooth barrel rifle not a non-montecarlo stocked iron sighted barrel.

On the 308, if you look under the specs under barrels it lists the 308 and 7mm-08 with a 22" barrel.  So listed under the picture and under barrels and not listed under the model number is 2 out of 3...

Looks like whoever updated the site knew what they were doing technically but not business offering wise.  And those that know the business offering must not have checked the site over.

Pretty sloppy.....  I know no one where I work would have been able to get away with that...
