"Gun" odors can be a problem. I personally try my best not to leave a scent trail through the woods when I approach my hunting spot (scent killer spray, rubber or synthetic boots/gaiters), but when it comes to descenting myself, I let it be. If a deer is directly down wind of you within 50 yards or so, nothing you do is going to completely mask or eliminate your scent 95% of the time. That's just MHO. I'm sure others have other views on this, but if you draw out your scent line on a map and look at the possible approaches deer will have (if your stand is placed properly according to the wind direction), the chances of getting busted by your scent are rather slim.
It's just something I leave to the whim of nature and put in the "fair chase" category of my hunting. To me it is not worth messing with trying to deodorize every article of gear and clothing plus your body. I make it part of my game plan that if I can't keep the deer out of my scent line, I either haven't done my job as a hunter or mother nature is just choosing not to smile on me that day. :lol:
