Are all 357 barrels bull barrels? Mine measures .805" I'm just wondering.

357 barrels are ~.740" from the FAQ section. With that said, there is no such thing as a 357 Bull barrel, but there can be exceptions.

I have two SB2 357s, one is .740" the other is .742", my 35 Whelen is .658", makes ya wonder why they didn't use same contour for the 357s.  ??? As LaOtto said, there's always exceptions, they prolly turned the barrel to the wrong contour than they normally use for the 357, as far as I know, all CF rifle barrels start out from the same blanks, 36" IIRC from a previous discussion with Gordon at Gardner.

Thanks for the quick replies, after reading this I thought I might have meas. wrong so took off barrel and remeasured, at forend screw it's .953" at half way to muzz. .900'' and at muzz. it's .805" I like the bull barrels over the standard barrels, of course at the end of the day in the woods it feels like it weighs 30#. :o

Yup, that's why I love Superlights, that extra pound or two lighter makes a big difference in a day of hunting!  8)

my 357 barrel goes .702 at the muzzle......it's from an older H+R rifle but locks up perfect on the SB2 frame I use it with ;)

The specs in the FAQs are for modern H&R/NEFs made 1987 and later, yours is likely a pre-'87 H&R Inc barrel, maybe a Model 158 with soldered underlug? They're all lighter contoured.... all the way from the chamber swell forward in fact, more like a modern Superlight, just longer.

What Tim said^^^

My 357 Max is a slim contour that measures about the same as what yours does. It's a model 058 from 1983. The gun weighs 6 lbs. even with palletwood stocks, you can't beat the older slim contour barrels for carrying all day.

I had one of the newer and heavier 357 barrels on the same rifle but the slimmer contour has a completely different feel. It "jumps" to your shoulder when you mount it and is a lot easier to tote around all day 8)

Yupper, I have a model 158 30-30 barrel on an SB2 frame, it's a joy to handle in comparison to a modern 30-30.  8)

One day I was in Cabelas and they had an old 158 30-30/20 gauge combo. I made the mistake of walking away from it. I'll never let that happen again :)
