Hey guys just writing to see if anyone has any comments about the 58 cal roudball. I have a t/c renegade and I am thinking of getting a 58 cal barrel for the gun through foxridge outfitters.

I agree 100%, but only because my .58 is the biggest I have right now.

58 is big, till you get a 62.............Then when you get a 72, the 62 is a small, does it ever end? :bye:  I hope so!

jrkrk: before you buy, you might want to check with green mountain.  i bought a drop in barrel for a t/c big boar 58.  the factory barrel had a 1in48 twist.  i couldn't get it to shoot conical bullets.  it would shoot round balls, but not very fast.  the green mountain barrel has a 1in70 twist. it is made for round balls.  it's working real well.  just another option.  hatchetman

My hunting partner and I both use T/C Big Boar 58's and love them. Although we get plenty of laughs from our friends for shooting "lug nuts" at deer! We use the Hornady Great Plains bullets, never could get the round balls to group to my satisfaction. Glad to see other 58 shooters (and Big Boar shooters) out there. It's a shame Thompson no longer makes the 58 Big Boar. They are hard to find, and prices are climbing. Sometimes components are a little hard to find, so if you go the 58 caliber route, stock up!

Someplace around here, I have a slug for a 4-bore muzzleloading rifle. I would guess that it weighs about 5 or 6 OUNCES.

No, I didn't shoot the gun -- I just watched and gave technical advice on the loading. My mother raised no foolish children.  :-)

Hombre, I'veever been close up to a BigBoar but it looks like it's mostly just a Renegade with a .58 barrel.  Maybe a .58 barrel fitted to a renegade is the same thing? :?

jrkrk,

Trackofthewolf.com sells green mtn replacement barrels. They should be great round ball shooters.

xnmr53,

My big gun, so far is a 7ga., 1000 grain ball over 180 grains of FF is a real deer killer.

I have shot it with more powder, but my spring loaded glasses almost fell off, Hit my target though!

58 is a good place to start, Enjoy!

Longcruise,
Yes, the Big Boar is pretty much just a Renegade with a 58 barrel. I reciently bought an extra Green Mountain 32 barrel & so far have been happy with it. Green Mountain makes a good product.
