Grasses...

BTW...it is my undertanding that none of the grass faimily is poisonous.....tender young grasses are quite edible. Most noteable are the juices from wheat and barley grass which fetch a premium in healthfood stores...nice licorice flavor.  I have a grass juicer...very handy for extracting nourishment from a large variety of leafy plants...will keep you alive, rich in nutrients, minerals, and enzymes.

Isn't it amazing the things you walk by, or step on, on a day to day basis turn out to be edible plants that could help save you in a crisis situation.

TM7 is this grass juicer a portable item, or something that stays at home?

Sorghum grasses, which includes johnson grass, sometimes turn toxic. The new growth after a frost has prussic acid (cyanide), so when sudan grass, for example, is double cropped after soybeans for pasture or a hay crop, the stubble is usually tilled under before frost.

The roots of the mature alfalfa plant produce endotoxins which only kills the young plants. So to get more than a sporadic stand, it needs tilled under and a whole new crop sowed.
Sometimes sweet clover turns toxic if it molds.
