catoosa wma draw hunt nov. 6-8
« on: October 30, 2008, 09:04:15 AM »
just wondering if anyone else got drawn for this hunt? I've been going down for the past 3 years but I haven't had any luck yet. Every time I've been the weather has sucked, pouring rain. I'm gonna mainly focus on hogs this year. Can anyone give me any tips on where to go inside the wma to find a good concentration of hogs?

I have never hunted one of the quota hunts but have been on the non-quota for the last 9 years. I have seen lots of deer but never a hog. I have seen lots of sign but never a hog. Last year I hicked 2.7 miles according to the GPS to get away from it all, found a awesome little honey hole, looked around for a climbing tree & found it, as I was climbing up the tree I realized it was worn out from being climbed. I was so pissed. Anyway, sorry i couldn't help.

we get drawn just about every year for the first gun hunt,we normaly camp out at bicolor cking station but nobody wants to pull a camper down there this year so were going to drive back & forth to our lease/camp on the southwest side of crossville, the hogs roam a pretty good amout & your best bet is to be in a funnel & let folks push them to you,i walked into a big pack of them last year in the dark & like ta S.A.BRICK   ;D   ,good luck,mike243

I hunted that last year, I was in my $30 Walmart tent and we had snow flurries the first night.brrrr. Anyway, I was at the Genesis station, if you continue down that road and head to the fields on the right, covered up with deer. The only hogs I saw were in the back of trucks. However...I have done more hog hunting since then and my successes have come from hunting the thick stuff around creeks. Find even small creeks that run into larger ones and you are in hog country. Like deer they also move a lot. One tactic is to follow a creek during daylight, especially where it is sunny. You will be likely to find them sleeping, they like the warmth of the sun. make sure you have a low powered scope and are ready to shoot at a seconds notice. Kinda like rabbit hunting.

Which fields are you talking about for deer. I've been up on the Genesis end alot and Peavine too. I'll probably take your advice on the creek deal and just wallk one until i get tired or kill a hog which ever comes first.

I"ve been going in on the peavine rd side, down fire tower road. I"ll go out almost to the devils breakfast table there"s a road on the left with a line of pine trees at the end there's a water tower our some kind of tower to left there's a field with a tree row around it I"ve seen pigs there all the time.and if you need someone to show you just let me know, I"ll be glad to go with you.

I am from Alabama and I got drawn for the hunt in December the 6-8. It says you can kill one buck. I am wondering where I should try looking for this east side hunt. Also can someone tell me what I need to do as far as the permit.Do I need to mail something in, or call someone.

Not trying to hijack, I'm after a deer. I posted this in Big Game before I found this thread:

I just got home from Afghanistan yesterday and found a permit for an ML hunt at Catoosa WMA in TN on the table. I'm stationed in NC and won't have a chance to scout before I head over for the hunt. Can anyone offer suggestions on where to hunt during the NOV 15-17 hunt? I'll have a NULA 209 muzzleloader and a TreeSaddle sling stand so I can hunt as mobile or static as I need to. I just need help narrowing down an area so I can get imagery and maps.If you don't want to post it in the forum feel free to PM me. Thanks for any help.
