From what I read over on Marlin Owners it is a 1952 model. I wouldn't imagine the difference in rifling twists to matter. It being '52 it should have the wavy lines on top of the receiver known as the waffle top! Or am I mistaken? .DT

Per Doug Murray's reference on the Marlin 336, J designates 1952 (confirming what Dirty30 said).

I have a 1950 [waffle top] with ballard rifling and shoot jacketed bullets just fine, it seems to shoot hornady LE's the best. The only cast bullets I have tried so far is 200 and 210 GC and they did not do as well as the jacked. Take it out and have some fun.

Just a update on the old 336sc. I've been playing around with some Hornady & Sierra 200gr. Rn. with 37gr of IMR 3031. This will be the load I'll use as it also works good in my son's newer 336c. They are hitting about 3/4 in. high at 50yd. so I think we will stay with that. Most of our shot are about 100yr. or less. We'll know in Nov. as that's when we go after our Black-tail's.
