Monday Night Football
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:17:38 AM »
As a resident of Washington State, I am a fan of the Seattle Seahawks and naturally I'm not disappointed that they improved their record last night.  I wish it had been under better circumstances.  The sports common taters have decided--maybe rightly so--that the replacement refs are putting the NFL at risk of loosing its prestige.  However, to me it speaks a lot of the state of the rules in the NFL as much as it does about the competence of the referees.  The rules simply leave a lot for the referees to interpret and in many cases it comes down to opinion.
There is nothing new about controversial calls, but when one determines the winner of a game--right at the very end--it really draws a lot of attention.  I haven't seen a really slowed down version of last night's interception/reception, but I can understand why the Cheeseheads are upset.

It was more than just the interception/touchdown. It was the blown roughing call, then the blown interference call earlier in the drive. I like both teams, but I really felt the botched officiating changed the outcome. It's been an annoyance up to this point, stretching the game out and making it hard to watch, IMO.

I watched through the 3rd Qtr.  So I can't comment on the outcome of the game.  Sounds like a dussey though...

The ESPN Monday Night "work up" before the game and Gruden's antoganistic commentary during the game - all against the Replacement Refs - have not helped.

1.)  Can it be that the viewing Public would prefer NO FOOTBALL at all (due to strike of Original Refs) over the Replacement Refs?

Or...

2.)  Shall the Game Go On?  And if so, then mistakes will be made and the pampered players, coaches, and viewers are going to have to suck it up.

Putting more pressure on the Replacement Refs isn't going to get it done.  That mouthing off detracts from the pampered players and coaches.  Pick #1 or #2 and stop antoganizing the Refs, or be called for a Sideline Infraction - 15 yards!!!

Well here is a still shot of after the catch... You decide who has the ball... Video is even more inclusive.  There were so many things wrong with the officiating in this game and the ones before itthat it has turned the league into a joke.  I think the Packers will be fine for the season, may even light a fire under them, but it would be interesting if Seattle wins the division or gets into the playoffs because of it...  Listening to all the talking heads today, not one person sided with the officials on this one, so goes to show how bad of a call it was.

And they are not on strike, they were locked out...

I watched the game and saw the Packer land on his butt with the ball grasped against his chest with both arms around it. When he hit the ground the play was over. It was clearly an interception. What amazed me was that the review upheld the missed call. That wasn't the only call the refs blew in that game by a long shot.

I have been about as disgusted by the play calling of the regular refs in years past. These guys aren't much worse than the regulars even with no experience or training. I may quit watching MNF, not because of the refs but because I really dislike Gruden and his big mouth. Terico is a good announcer but his pardner on the show ruins things for me.

While it would be a gross understatement to say I dislike the packers, being a bears fan. And am not saddened by the outcome of the game, I feel these games need to be called fairly and honestly, otherwise, what's the point?

Sorry, but that's what you get for being a Bear's fan... Although it hasn't been much of a rivalry over the last 20 years.  How many QB's have you had over that time again???  Gotta be pushing 30 by now.  By the way, we've had 2....

It's about the money. Win or lose it doesn't matter. There is money to be made. The people who are most upset are the sports betting people. The real refs are back and there is more money to be made now.

Mr Cheese...word is Scott 'union basher' Walker and crew are relieved the Union Refs are back after loosing money on the Packard's game..  Seriously.  Way to go Scott!

Hey, no problem paying people what they are worth even union members, especially when there are no other reliable options ... Problem is most unions are comprised of jobs that others could be hired to do tomorrow with no effect whatsoever...

I'm sorry Mr. Buckskin and I mean no disrespect or want to irk mods; but this sounds like crazy talk and hypocritcal to boot. Who gets to decide who is worthy of union organizing and who gets discounted as a crap worker and can't organize..?  Scott Walker?.  Boy, is this classic 'classism' or what.
.
Well at least we got some good refs back and Scottie eating some humble pie.
.
..TM7

Well that is easy!  If others can be hired and no difference in quality of work, no need to give into their demands. It really is simple supply and demand.  If the replacement refs were as good as the unionized refs nobody would have complained and Rodger would have never caved into the union....  Such as if all the whiney old teachers were replaced with fresh energetic teachers willing to be judged on their merit...

And anyone can organize, it's just a matter if management will acknowledge the organization...

The NFL sided with the officials after reviewing the video.

Why do you keep saying that I don't think people should belong to unions. I'm fine with that. Belong to as many unions as you like... Get it, I DON'T CARE...  Just don't want to have to be forced into using said unions... If they are the best of the best, there wouldn't be a choice, so fine they would likely get whatever demand they wanted.  When they are no better than the average Joe, then no, I you shouldn't be forced into using union labor....  There are plenty operators, electricians, welders, etc, who are better than like union members, so why should I be forced to use union labor????

These sub ref's were not qualified to umpire NFL games, way over their heads. Had nothing to do with the union, they just didn't have the expirience.  My guess is that some of them will be hired by the NFL as subs and will do just fine as time goes on and the game slows down.

how did this change into a "union" thread rather than a football thread. not having anything invested in the nfl, i found the games still entertaining. and that's all the nfl is for, ENTERTAINMENT.
