The 9mm has always been known for over penetration, while the .45 and 10mm you mention tend the dispurse their energy through expansion.  My wife carries a 9mm and my research showed me that the 124 gr. bullet was a better man (better expansion) stopper than the 147 gr bullet(more penetration) ( much to my suprise).

BLOG !
I don't know what you expected of the two policeofficers in NYC! I expected them to shoot the man!
The question is penetration.
Pass thrus will allow better bleed out. Bullets which dispurse energy INTO the target stop better. The fatter the better.

I bought Glasser cartridges for all the hand guns we use for home protection.  They won't pass through a person or a wall.  With the shotguns we use light skeet loads.

When the wife shot the intruder a few years ago most of the pellets bounced off the kitchen counter.  She was using real light Grouse loads, with #7 shot.  The Doctor that removed the pellets from the intruder said they had only gone in an inch or so in the unprotected areas.  His clothing stopped most but not all of the pellets.  He was wearing jeans, and a lined denim jacket.  Fear kept him running when he left.  Infection is what got him to the hospital.

I went on many calls at Ft WW where guns had been discharged in Post Housing.  Bullets were in most cases FMJs.  These bullets passed through the exterior walls, then hit another house, passing through another exterior wall.  The bullets were usually stopped by things like boxes of books, metal electronics cases, wooden cabinets, or furniture.  Fortunately no one was hit by these wayward rounds.  But the damage done showed if someone was hit they could have been killed or injured.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
