Hmmm, ... another way to dispose of political disidents?

If we cannot afford the medical care that we have, how are we going to afford medical care plus a government bureaucracy to manage it!

This is how he opened the article:
"Well, maybe not death panels, exactly, but unless we start allocating health care resources more prudently — rationing, by its proper name — the exploding cost of Medicare will swamp the federal budget."

He is sensationalizing and the OPs title post does even more. After reading the article what is any different than what is happening now? Insurance companies will not approve certain procedures, usually due to cost or the excuse that the procedure is "experimental". Do all the need transplants get them now, no. Is everything possible to keep an elderly person alive always done currently, no.
But, since the beginning of Obamacare there are now people that can afford to get the treatment they need such as those with preexisting conditions and our own sons and daughters between the ages of 18-26 that can still stay under there parent's plan.

In a free market it would be left to the market to work out which always finds the least expensive way.

The only way government will be able to reduce health care costs will be to ration health care, period.  If you think other wise put your glass of cool aid down. Government run health care has just began. The foot is in the door. Instead of doctors and family members making decisions on a loved ones care it will be some bureaucrats, that have no other motive than to keep it cheap as possible. Don't be mistaken and think that government is going to run health care for the best interests of "we the people".
