Steven Walt in the above link purposely used the lowest estimate for the number of innocents killed.  He does also say in the above article the true number is much higher.  Regardless, the bigger question we need to ask is this:  If they come here and kill 3,000, which we don't know for certain who they really are.  But let's say that we do.  Let's say 18 Muslim hijackers did in fact come here and kill 3,000 of ours.  Does that justify us going over there and killing over 1,000,000?

I would like us to pull out of the middle east all together, the problem is you have a putts in office that does not have the sand to just do it, or is so inept in foreign affairs he actually SPREADS the problems out even more, we are in more places now than before and have a president who lets things continue and the inexperience and ideology to make things even worse, add to that cover ups, damage control, and telling the American people out right lies, and you have Bush times 4. The people that are sticking up for this president and supporting him and then complaining about the wars while still voting for him simply amaze me, he has not delivered on anything he promised you, he made things worse. I find myself agreeing with some on the "left" concerning wars, and then somehow getting confused when they then support the guy keeping us there, and making things even worse.  Add to that the cover ups, damage control tactics, people at our embassies over run and killed due to lack of experience or stupidity, more troop casualties, lack of any attention to what's going on, and no BULLETS for the few they leave behind....and you have one of the most corrupt inept bunch of people who ever held positions of power.  Left wing cried about WMD...bad intel, Bush should have gone to jail, bla, bla, bla....but when Obama lies outright and then blames intel, and gets our embassies and Americans crushed after KNOWING it was going to happen, I hear crickets. It stuns me that people could be that attached to the Democrat political party that they would give up their soul. I walked away from the republican party for much less that what I'm seeing now.
If you voted for Obama and are complaining about the wars I guess you better vote him out out before the whole region over there goes wacky, not to mention how bad it will get here.  Obama supporters should not complain about anything, the Dem's got everything they wanted passed since 2007 till now...Bush even signed what the Dem's wanted.  People that voted for Obama have nothing to complain about but their own foolishness. Some people forget that in the early 1800's, Jefferson (democrat) had to send the ships and Marines to stop the Muslim barbary pirates.  Some people forget the Arab oil embargo in 1973.  Some people forget they once hijacked airliners throughout the 1970's.  Some people forget the 1979 Iranian embassy hostages, (under Carter).  What about the 1993 attempted bombing of the World Trade Center (under Clinton)?  What about the attack on the USS Cole (under Clinton)?  Obama went around appologizing to the Muslims.  What did it get us?  Another embassy sacked and Americans killed.  Doesn't matter when these attacks take place, they are at war with Americans.  If it walks like a duck.  Remember 9-11.  Never forget who our real enemies are.  Liberal Democrats are more dangerous than Muslim fanatics.  They open the door for attacks by being weak.  We didn't start all this mess, they did.  The harder you hit back, the less likely they have the means to attack you.  I do disagree on ground troops every time.  Our air force and navy pilots can knock out a lot, and bring a country to its knees.  Set them back several years.  If their countries harbor terroists, then they need to be attacked when and if necessary.  Enough is enough.  We need to once and for all STOP IMPORTING oil and get energy independent.  Stop giving them money to use to turn on us.  Islams goal is world domination.  We have to keep them in check just like we did the communists during the cold war.
