Killing Bugs For Long Term Food Storage

Bought 250lbs. of wheat for longterm storage in mylar and plastic buckets. Wheat has some grain beetles. Will the o2 absorbers take care of this? If not any suggestions?

I don't normally mess with anyones post. Modified the subject a little so maybe you will get some more hits from the fellows who hit show new replies from your last visit.
I use CO2. Just a bottle with a hose. I place the hose in the bottom of the container. Fill it up with the food to be stored. Place the lid on the top. Turn the bottle on a little. Pulling the hose to the top. Seal the lid as it comes out. Then the container goes in the deep freeze for a week or so, or until I need the room. I have read a lot of different ways that folks do theirs so maybe they will chime in.

One of the oldest techniques is to mix in a lot of wood ash. Requires cleaning washing and redrying in most cases, for food. Planting just requires shakeing out the ash to avoid alkaline in the seed bed. You might not have enough viable wheat seed to risk tryihg to keep that batch. check close for holes in the grains. Once established wevils are hard to get out. ear

Surprised noone mentioned FREEZING!
 
For a multitude of grains, flour, corn meal, cake mixes, etc., etc.
 
Not familiar with grain beetles, unless they're also known as weevels.
 
 
 
The freezing for 72-96 hours kills weevels.

A golf ball sized piece of dry ice in the bottom of a 5 or 6 gallon bucket is a technique known to displace 'air' with carbon monoxide. 
 
But a sealed mylar bag?  I'd freeze it.

yes the o2 packets will take care of it.

My neighbors always used a bit of ry ice at the bottom of the barrel.
