Saw a beauty this morning
« on: October 30, 2012, 05:30:23 PM »
This morning the wife & I were on our way into town and saw a beautiful specimen of Whitetail buck. Where we live we see lots of deer every day including bucks so they are a munching nuisance to us. About a mile north of home while driving by the neighbors this guy was standing in their yard by the edge of the timber. He was about 15 yards from the road and we were going very slow so we got a good look at him.. We were both taken by the perfect features on this deer, both body and rack. Sure hope no one pops this guy as he is a good breeder for the herd. I have several 6-8-10 pointer cull bucks at my place tearing things up again this year.

Funny how they know where they are safe. I've seen some big boys cruising the edges of towns, saw a good one myself last night next to a little acreage that no one is permitted to hunt.

After days and days and days of seeing nothing moving while on stand, I observed a beautiful, old, long-tined, 6-point at the roadside gate of an occupied farm house after shooting hours while on the way home.  With the Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt right there on the seat, it was tempting, but I slowed, stopped and speaking right to the buck at a distance of 15 FEET, asked that old boy to please go back into the woods and come out tomorrow in front of a tree stand, then I drove off...all of which of course he observed, heard, and ignored!!!!  Go Figure...
