Waterfowl stamp required for Woodcock??
« on: September 16, 2012, 05:01:39 AM »
Hi all!!

The regulation book is a little unclear.  I know woodies are migratory, but do I need to buy a waterfowl stamp to hunt them with grouse or is just the small game license good enough.  The gal at Cabelas says I need it, but I think no.   Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked the guys at the store in NC and he said that Wood DUCK would require a DUCK stamp as well as the lead free shot shells.
In most states you are not allowed to have lead ammo with you while duck hunting.  We will hunt quail after wood duck hunting but carry steel 7's for the quail on the way out of the swamp.
My suggestion is the duck stamp and lead free shells are going to be cheaper than the fine if a game warden stops you and you are wrong with out the stamp and the lead free shells.

Woodcock are not Woodducks and  in Wisconsin are considered migratory and do not require the purchase of federal or state waterfowl stamps to hunt them. Altho you are not required to use steel shot statewide for them, in many public access lands and  refuges, it is. Your gun must be limited to three shells or less tho.
"where'd you get the gun....son?"

I read Woodducks and not Woodcock/ Timber Doodle/.  Sorry,  Hit 44 this year and guess I now have to face one of two things.
