Nope, looks like I'm skunked this year. Got a line on some sweet private land for next season though. :)

I'll be going down for Friday & Sat. I have 2 tags left, don't really need to fill them. The plan is to help take some stands & seats down, with some prime time hunting, eve & A.M..

I got a sweet new Knight Elite in 45 cal I plan to try out. I mounted a crystal clear Zeiss 3-9 Conquest scope & have it sighted in with 200 grn SSTs & 110 grns of Blackhorn 209.

Got back last eve from the buddy's lease North of Peoria. It was a little breezy, but workable. We got 4 anterless & one guy missed his coyote shot. The new Knight 45 cal did wonderful with 2, zero tracking required.

We got down mid-day Friday so I offered up a drive for the other 2 guys that rode down with me. This was a piece of cover seldom hunted but usually holding deer. After they got in position I started slowly, saw some tails early on, 2 shots minutes later. Both guys had great opportunities, the 1st saw the adult doe coming & set up for the easy shot. The 2nd guy muffed the shot, low I think with a little white hair & very little blood. We did a very good effort but recovery was not going to happen.

Later that eve I bagged one by some thick creek cover.  After the Sat A.M. hunt I had a guy in position again for me to work on a 'push' towards him, through excellent cover. Once he was in position I slowly worked towards him, still hunting my way into the wind. I catch a doe on the move & another falls to the new 45 cal Knight.

Then later another guy doing stand work just happens to push 8 or so deer towards us as we are walking out. The buddy drops an adult doe with his Savage 220 slug gun.

The activity was rather light from neighboring properties.

I only got to hunt yesterday(saturday) at Jubilee, saw tails but no shots. Nobody we talked to had seen anything at all. Skunked again, second year in a row(well last year was hunting in FL and Alabama so maybe it doesn't really count)! Congrats Sourdough on all that meat you got this year, I'm kinda envious! I need to line up a better spot for next year, have one private property to hunt but after first season it's vacated by the deer, there's no cover.  The landowner usually still has corn up first shotgun. I got kicked off my other spot, so Yeah lookin for some better ground!
