New Toy

Picked up an old "Shikari" today in 45/70  Was somewhat loose when i picked it up.  Ended up making a spacer to make the forend a little tighter and she is good to go.  Can't wait to try some of my trail boss loads in her

Cool, enjoy it.  8)  I love my Buffalo Classic, but wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of those if the opportunity were right.  Remember to keep these to trap door level loads.  ;)

Never too old to learn.  What is the history of the "Shikari"?  When was it sold?  I see it has a barrel band on the forearm and what looks like a ramrod.   ???  Piney Creek

i think they were from the 70's  Not  a strong reciever like the new ones.  Have to use light loads, but still plenty for here in SC

Nice find
I cant help but wonder just where it was 'loose'? If only when opened up, well, they are, and the forearm spacer tightness will affect that. But if it was loose at the standing breech then you need to shim the pivot (see the FAQs).
Trapdoor level loads will do all you need to and cast bullets with Trail Boss is a favorite.
BTW, I had a 44Mag Shikari 30ish years ago; should have kept it...........

it was loose both ways.  The forarm made it tight, I'll check out the FAQ's

These had a cleaning rod as memory serves, it does look like a ramrod though.  ;)

I fell in love with these things as soon as they hit the racks back in the seventies.
 
I know that black plastic sells, but I love the traditional look of these rifles.
