Another one for John Linebaugh, IT'S BACK!
« on: January 02, 2013, 02:13:40 PM »
Met with John today and gave him my 10.5" 44 mag. SBH and asked him to wave his wand over it. 8)   The poor thing had been used hard by someone shooting silhouette and had gotten a bit loose in lock-up when I got it,  and was just too darn long and heavy to pack around. :P    When she comes back home she's gonna be wearing a new 45 colt barrel and cylinder and have a free spin pawl, scalloped loading gate, new steel plunger shroud and barrel will be 4 5/8".  Was going to have a Bisley hammer, but John says ya can't get em now.  I'm lucky enough to see John about every week and several of his revolvers come to our store to be picked up by their happy owners.  The man is as nice as they come and is not just a damn fine craftsman, he's an artist when it comes to firearms, some of his creations are stunning to look at and hold. :-*   Just thought I'd share, OK, brag about a new/old Ruger coming back to my house. ;D   This is number 4 John has laid his hands on for me, I just can't say enough about his work, if anyone is looking to have a "Special" Ruger, DO IT!!!  DP

Don't wait!  Pull the trigger and send one off to John, you won't be sorry you did.  I'm hoping to get down to his shoot next year and play with one of his 500 Linebaughs, that cartridge just looks so awesome laying in your hand.  He brought up a Ruger #1 that had been rebarreled with a Pac-Nor barrel chambered in the 500 Linebaugh that matched the original 375 H&H barrel contour.  I gotta tell ya, that balanced soooo well, it was like throwing a "fitted to you" double shotgun to your shoulder, felt like it was part of you.  (The hole in the barrel almost looked like a shotty too. ;D ).  DP

You're double lucky to be sure...wish I could afford that kind of custom work..my little "dream" gun is a Stainless 4 5/8 Bisley Vaquero in 45 colt that I have owned for years. I'd really enjoy to have it turned into a .480 Ruger with the fireblued S&W type adjustable sights. Seems to me this would be just a great little holster gun.  Heck I would even forego the adjustable sights, but they look so good on that model...well, dream on..

Got her back yesterday, 8)  John brought it up with him to the "Dremel Club meeting".  Opened the case up and there she lay, all dark blue/black and glistening. :-*   Using Ruger parts, she wears a 4 5/8" barrel with new front sight, Bisley cylinder with free spin pawl, new rear sight, loading gate scalloped out to let your thumb in easier, new oversized base pin locked in with set screw, cylinder gap is at about .002 and she's reblued.  Other than giving me grief about the Hogue grips ::) , John did his usual fantastic job.  Chambers line up as though she was line-bored.  Took her out this morning and ran some light 225 cast HP's, 255 RNFP's, some of my 335 gr SWC's and 300gr CPB's that I load heavy.  Other than POI being very different for the 4 loads, she is shooting better than I can.  We are gonna get a lot of practice this spring and summer, she is gonna be my back-up for hunting season this year.  The last two loads are on top of 24.0 gr of H-110 and put the 44 mag in second place for getting your attention when you squeeze them off! :o   I think I'm going to drop back to using the 275 SAA bullet from Montana Bullet Works with a lighter charge of different powder to come in about 1100 fps for this girl.  That is an excellent bullet and Dave with MBW is a local boy, gotta keep some money here in Montana! ;)   I am one happy camper with this Ruger, she has just taken over first place in the race for getting in the shoulder holster when we head out to the cabin or mountains ;D .  John is getting backed up a bit with orders, if you want something built, better get a hold of him to get it ordered soon!  DP

I have thought about it for YEARS now...  The fever for a fine hunting hand gun has wained for me. I still very much enjoy it, just have settled on what I have...

Last I looked into it, I figured it was just as good to simply but a casull 454 which I did about ten years back. It too is a fine firearm. But after all that I like my 45 Colt Bisley 7.5'' better... I installed a free spin pawl and a over sized cylinder pin too. She shoots very good for me.

Maybe one day.

I would love to see some pics too!
