Info on Primitive Arms Co., Branson, MO.
« on: November 09, 2012, 09:25:38 AM »
Trying to find out some info on this seller.  I heard Uberti made the actual products in Italy, but I did not see that on the gun itself.  I am looking at a .54 cal. cap muzzleloader with double triggers, and can't find much info on it.  Quality looks pretty good. Note says from the "80's". Octagonal barrel.

Were these any good?

Any particular safety issues with these rifles?

Approximate value?

Thanks.

They were just a seller that went out years ago. Probably in the late 80's or early 90's. Some folks here might be able to tell you about the .54 Uberti Hawken that you are wanting to know about though. You may want to change the subject line to reflect that instead of Primitive Arms Company. It might get you more hits.
Good luck.

tacotime - I believe I have one of those guns, mine is a "Hawken" type percussion rifle with a rubber recoil/butt pad.  My particular rifle was imported by Investarms, and made in Italy.  Probably also by Uberti, who made BP guns for many importers who just put their rollmark on the gun.  The quality is pretty good, bluing is excellent, fit and finish are excellent.  It also has an octagonal barrel, and sling mounts.
I've never fired it, and still have the box it came in, it's been a safe queen all these years because I found other toys that I liked to shoot better.
If I recall correctly, it sold for around $300+ or -, back then.

Well there's a bit of confusion there,
Investarms is an Italian manufacturer not an Importer.
They currently make Investarms, Lyman and Cabelas model ML rifles. They make Barrels for many others with values across the spectrum from Box store cheap and up, including some very high end CF shotgun makers.

Uberti and Investarms are two different Manufactures and to my knowledge are competitors that never shared production

necchi,
I thank you for the correction.  It seems like I mixed up Investarms, which is the rollmark on my old BP rifle, and Interarms, which is the importer.

Sorry for the mix up, I probably remember Interarms as an importer, because I had a German made Walther PPKs, in .380acp, which was imported by Interarms in the 70's.

Update:  under the barrel it does say Made in Italy, but no other info.

On further review, quality looks quite good.

Reference to Hawken appears correct - looks identical to the images I have seen.

Looks like Primitive Arms was just a re-seller, not sure how long in business.
