OK, WHAT A OPENING DAY!!!!!!!
Started out 5am to my favorite flat... 7:45 a good young shooter buck. (Scrub buck is what we call them. Spikes, three point odd # of points, or one side screwed up...ETC.) He walked up to about 30 yards and turned his head to face me.
I put the 2x Leupold on his nose and squeezed the trigger.... Bang and he was flopping on the ground. Load, 17g AA1680 and a 123g Hornady bullet. The bullet exited the center of his neck with a dime sized hole. I dont do this very often, not sure why I did this time, but I knew exactly where the gun shot and was confident as all get out as the gun (As you all see) LOVES this loading!! ZERO meat loss on this one!!
So Its opening day... Its 8AM and I am done! Well, done for the morning...
I get him hung and clean myself up, put the 32/20 away and bring out the 25/35... I walk down the other side of the property, down into a swampy area and sit down. I did not have to wait long
A chunky spike was working his way down to a opening about 130 yards in front of me. He turned and offered me a quartering away shot. I set the X hairs on his heart and sent a 117 RN bullet his way. The deer mule kicks and heads back up the hill. I have a god blood trail..
I let him sit for about 20 minutes before following.
After a solid 30 minutes, he was still alive when I got to him! When I gutted him, his on side shoulder was broken, and the bullet turned and exited the ''point'' of the brisket and his heart was GONE!! How was he still living???
In one day I broke in BOTH my Trotter specails, it was a very GOOD DAY!!
I am starting dinner... anyone wanna guess what we are having?
