torn between a .357 and .44 for deer
« on: October 22, 2012, 06:05:49 AM »
I want to buy myself a nice levergun and the Henry Bigboy is what I decided I want. But I don't know if I shold get the .357 or .44. I use a .357 Max, and a .357 686 S&W now so I thought about getting the .357 to keep it simple. I guess the .44 would be a better choice since I don't have that caliber and it would do what the .357 will plus more. Worst part is, is that my local dealer has both on the shelf. The .357 has the nicer wood.
Do any of you mount scopes on your Bigboys?  I was thinking something like a Leupold 2x7x33 or something similar.

My choice would be the 44.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

:)  I ordered the .357 from my other local shop. Also ordered an American Classic II Commander .45 1911. He gave me a great deal on both combined. Now the wait begins

If it's gonna be a some-times deer rifle, with another more potent avail... I'd opt for 357. If it's gonna be a primary deer rifle... definitely the 44
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

used both calibers on whitetail.
can't tell any difference as far as
lethality. for tougher customers i'd say
.44
i have been most impressed by the.357
in a rifle after hearing and reading articles
about how anemic a cartridge the .357 mag
is . of course , i've heard the same thing about
30/30 win. and the .410

gunwriters always know best. . . .

don't they ? . . . . ;D
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

It will be a sometimes deer rifle, probably for later season when I like to still hunt. I use my .357 Max for my main deer gun.  I have several friends who shot deer with a .357 and it works perfectly fine. My dealer is having a hard time finding one right now but I told him to keep it on order and let me know when it comes in.
