So far i'm using a .50 white Mt. carbine with 370gr tc maxi's. I've had 5 hunts with it since the season opener. A very kind gbo member has a scissor mold in .690 on the way to me now and if I can get the balls to track straight from my new to me TC New Englander 12ga. I'm wary of cracking the stock on the old NE'er, its serial number 400 and something and doesn't have a machine screw through the tang like later models. I'm going to start with 60gr triple seven and chrony that big roundball. It really needs 800fps or more to retain enough energy to humanely take a deer imho, so i'll adjust accordingly to find a good charge in terms of recoil, energy and accuracy enough for close range deer. I also plan on using a .50 air rifle once our gun season opens. It shoots .495 balls(no patch) with extreme accuracy out to 40 yards or so. It however is a rifled bore. My plan for a 2'nd smootbore is to either purchase a white mountain carbine barrel and have it bored to a cly. smoothbore in .54, I think or pick up a Pietta 12 sxs thats at a local dealer. Even though i'm looking forward to using rb's in my guns, I also want to try buckshot, pumpkins balls and mixed shot sizes. Just to see what happens:-)
