M70 Lightweight in 7x57
« on: December 04, 2010, 07:05:58 PM »
New member here and thought I would ask a question of you all. Does anyone know how many lightweight M70 7x57 were made around 1992 or so?  I have one of these great little rifles but very little info. I called Winchester and talked to the historian and he said he remembers them making some around that time frame but doesn't know if they made one or 10,000.

Does anyone have one these rifles?

I've looked through as many magazines, catalogs and gun books and I can find around that time frame and none of them mention a word about the 7x57.

Thanks

are you talking the lightwieght carbine or the featherweight. ALot of featherweights were made. The lightweight carbine was done in a couple rare versions. I have one in 250 sav. I know at that time they only made 250 with sights and 250 without. If the 757 was one of those limted run lightweights and to be honest i dont remember i would guess it would have simualar production numbers

The rifle is marked Lightweight on the barrel and has iron sights as well.

I know I am drudging up a two year old thread, but I am trying to find out info on what I believe is the same rifle the OP had inquired about.

I found this Model 70 Lightweight at a local FFL.  I believe it was made in the 80's and is a push feed.  Very nice set of sights.  The rear sight folds forward, and the front has a hood.  Chambered in 7x57mm.  I can find several references to Featherweights in this caliber (disc in 1985), but I can find no reference to the Lightweight model in 7x57.

If anyone has any info on this gun, I'd apreciate it!

I thought I had one in .223 but the barrel is marked carbine. I know in this variation they made them with a 20" barrel for a couple of years before going to a 22".
