Are there any other styles of optics bases available for the Handi's?

a Leupold base. Might try those as better quality than what I'm using.

I'd like to find an option for a "Scout" style mount

I recently mounted a compact 2.5x20 scope on a 45/70 with extension rings...  puts the eyepiece just ahead of the hammer

but I'd still prefer a scout style.   I think I'll be D&T'n this one in the near future

There's a couple scout mounts shown in the FAQs, one works with a Weaver 92a base mounted at the rear sight location, late model WGOS sight mount barrels work perfect with two existing two screws, add two more and you have a true scout mounted Handi.  ;D

You likely will not have the eye relief for a true scout setup, BUT you CAN do this!!

This is a 1x20 Nikon with at least the eye relief of your leupy. Its a factory base. (The W82 would even be BETTER for this useage!)

There are infinite (or nearly so) possibilities for mounting a scope on a Handi!

One option I've chosen is to replace the factory base with a harder-steel Ironsighter that has picatinny type grooves across the top.  (from MidwayUSA.com)

The rings I use are the Leupold all-steel (PRS or PWS or similar lettering) that allow for fairly quick on-and-off of one Handi-Rifle to another!  (once a scope is mounted and rings tightened, if the same base is used on more than one rifle, the scope-ring [unit] should switch to rifle to rifle to rifle WITH NO PROBLEMS, except sighting in each time.

Since I cannot YET afford all the scopes I need, that is the route I've gone.  Those NEF Ironsighter bases also lend themselves well to being modified with bigger screw holes when tapped with 8-40's vs 6-48's that come on the Handi.

The Ironsighter base is aluminum, it's a good base, a bit tall for my taste, but well built with full width cross slots, I have one on my 50-140 BC, works fine with 570gr Hornadys at 2200fps.  ;)

I used a Warne steel base on my son's 35 Whelen with Weaver 6 screw Tactical rings . This is very solid.
