Hello, I am sitting here with the S&W book in front of me and they did not make a 622 as far as I can find.  They did make a .22 called the K22, is that what you were asking about??

S&W's older revolvers are very well made.  I feel the newer ones are as well, but as with anything, you will find people on both sides of the fence.  I am really happy with my smith and I do think that if the gun is in good shape, a Smith for $250 is a good buy.  But that is just my opinion.

I think auto's are a little easier to take apart and clean, but I am real fond or revolvers and do not mind cleaning them at all, when you get a system down, it can go pretty quick.

Let us know what you decide and how you make out.

Good Luck

A few months ago, I had roughly the same question ... and got some good answers.  Use the "Search" function, above: use Key Word "622" and look in this forum (Rimfire Handguns); it'll pop up.  Peter F.

cool, I guess you learn something new everyday.  I never thought to look under the auto's section.  I guess I will have to look it up.

Post a pic if you get the gun

If you look at it, you'll have to admit it is sort of an odd design ... seems to have features you don't see on any other gun (the Peugeot of firearms).  For instance, the barrel rides low in the front, UNDER the lug (which should be good).  Also, the mag release is a button in the front strap, about where your middle finger would be.  Also, I find it odd that the S&W model 41 was made both BEFORE and SINCE the 422/622 (422 being blue, 622 being stainless).  Meanwhile, the general opinion is that it was a pretty decent gun ... not a match-winner, but a solid relatively-inexpensive plinker.  I can't quite figure why they quit making it unless it was expensive to make, or it was being made under some licensing arrangement with another manufacturer and that arrangement fell through.  More questions than answers.  Peter F.

I've got a 422 and it is a neat pistol, but like Pete said, it probably won't win any matches.  It's kind of like a scaled back, light weight 1911.  For anyone who happens to pick one of these up--two cautions: keep the frame screws tight--check the ones under the grips, and don't dry fire the pistol.

These are fine guns, why the design was dropped is beyond me.
