« on: February 08, 2004, 04:10:50 AM »
Does anyone know if the limbsaver pads and the Tru Glo pads are the same?  I'd like to mount one on my BPS 3.5 " with a syn stock.  also can that stock be cut down just like wood?  TIA

Synthetic stocks present some peculiar problems when cutting them off but it can be done.  The molded areas where the buttplate screws thread into move be removed by the shortening process.  There needs to be something added to screw the pad to.  I usually add slice off an old wood stock that fits the remaining hole. This is epoxied into place and the pad is screwed to it as normal..  I've not used the limbsaver pads, I normally use Pachmeyer Decelerator pads.  They work well and hold up over time.

I'm not familiar w/ tru glow pads but I put a limbsaver on a wood thumbhole stock for an Encore.  I got the large grindable pad as I wanted a pretty beefy stock.   Limbsaver has a web site where you can down load templates for the different sized pads.  Only the outside edge is grindable, which was different from the pachmyers I have used previously. The stock was slightly small in a couple of places leaving a slight lip on the pad after I ground it down as much as I could.  I like to round the top corner so it will not hang on clothes when mounting the gun but this is not possible with the limbsaver.  The base plate that screws to the stock is the only part that is grindable on the limbsaver.  Hope this helps.
