Is there a bullet made for use with black powder, or is it the same that I would use for smokless?  Should I use a heavy or light bullet?  

Anyone have any good sources for bullets?

I use the same bullets for blackpowder and smokeless loads. For my handguns I cast bullets using original Winchester bullet molds ie: molds for .38-40 and .44-40 are Winchester molds. I try to cast bullets from molds that were around when these cartridges were loaded with blackpowder but newer Lyman or RCBS molds are produced in designs that are similar, if not exactly alike, to original designs.
The best source are the bullets that you cast.

Essentially you should stick with two lube groove bullets. Lee has a mold for the "Pigeon Roost Slim" bullet that is not listed in thier catalogue, you have to call them and request it, for .45s and they have another in .357. These were deigned specifically fer BP by CAS shooters in conjunction with LEE. They are fabulous bullets, I underestand! The design was achieved after some experiementing with my Maxi Ball .45 Colt rounds.

Cut's  I remember your maxi ball discussion, I thoutht it would ge a good idea, and went to give it a try but the only thing around here were 50 cal. at the time and it kinda slipped my feeble mind afterwards. Thanks for reminding me of that.

I haven't started casting yet, but intend to start real soon, have already started gathering wheel weights and cleaning them up, got a Lyman casting manual on the way and a 500gr mold from Lee supposed to be on the way too.

Is there any one that manufactures two grove, or even one big groove bullets?

Ok, I'm back. (and pretty well stuffed too! :grin: ) Lee makes several double groove designs, including the Pigeonroost Slim mold, which is one groove bullet with a HUGE lube groove. Check out http://www.leeprecision.com/ and Lyman also makes some double groove molds for CAS cartridges. http://www.lymanproducts.com/lymanproducts/

I'm sure there are others out there. BTW, I've used single groove bullet designs and filled the crimp grooves, then seat the slugs deep enough to crimp on the ogive. This works pretty good with some bullets, but not always.
