Police taze 10 yr old boy at school career day.
« on: November 05, 2012, 03:24:09 PM »
Police use Taser on 10-year-old at school career day    A lawsuit claims an New Mexico state police officer stunned a 10-year-old boy with a Taser after he refused to wash the officer's car.

Officer Christopher Webb was visiting the boy's elementary school for a career day on May 4 when the incident occurred, according to Courthouse News.

During the presentation, Webb apparently asked a group of students if they wanted to wash his patrol car, the lawsuit states. When the boy, identified as R.D. jokingly refused, Webb pointed the stun gun at him and said, "Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police."

Then R.D., who weighs about 100 pounds, was hit in the chest with two barbs and 50,000 volts of electricity, according to Courthouse News Service.

Webb told the Albuquerque Journal the Taser was accidentally discharged.

The boy blacked out.

The officer removed the barbs, which left marks that "looked like cigarette burns" on R.D.'s chest, the lawsuit alleges. The lawsuit claims Webb acted in a "reckless manner."

R.D., who now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, has "woken up in the middle of the night holding his chest, afraid he is never going to wake up again," Courthouse News Service quoted his lawyer as saying.

Webb was suspended for three days without pay, the Albuquerque Journal reports. He did not return calls from the newspaper seeking a comment.

Can a story like this be made up?  ???  Either way, I've always said that cops aren't hired primarily upon their intellect.

I wonder what kind of "suspension" any of us here would get for the same crime. Well it should have been a crime.

I doubt that Tazers were tested against children during their development. It seems like a really dangerous thing to do that to a kid.

Give 10, 10 year old kids Tazers and have them "execute" the cop firing squad style. Be he wouldn't do it again.

most likely, we'd have gotten dirt nap after being shot to death by officer 'in fear for his life'

If not that... we'd have found prosecutor our new worst nightmare
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

How about all of the above plus assualt and battery charges with appropriate jail time after he is found guilty, and then a one way ticket to the unemployment line upon his release and also he can kiss that  pension bye-bye.

I just cannot understand the thought process of this cop, state trooper no less that are generally more cream of the crop. First that he would do such a thing and second that he would get away with it with no raising an eyebrow, third that he is allowed to carry a gun too? Fourth that he has not been fired? I bet that families block is full of parked lawyers waiting in line to file suit and rightly so in this case. Lord have mercy!

Accident or not it was a stupid thing to do, and he needs a new occupation.
Forget the lawsuits! Why should the tax payers have to foot the bill every time someone does something stupid or violates a law? If the kid needs to be under a doctors care for a while because of it the city should pay the bills. If he did it intentionally then charge him with a crime. If it was accidental due to stupidity, then take his gun and badge. It could be bullets hitting someone in the chest next time.

If the city has to pay then voters may take a better look at who gets elected ( doubt it ) and those elected officals may look for better hires ( right).
