Remington 878 magazine tube?
« on: November 07, 2012, 06:42:29 PM »
Has anyone here taken the magazine tube apart on one of these?
I have one that needs a new spring and can't figure out how the darned thing comes apart.
Any help is appreciated.

This auto uses the mag tube as part of the gas operating system. The carrier must be detached from the gas piston and the piston is then removed from the front of the tube.. See the attached diagram.. the front spring is the action spring the divider seperates ir from the mag spring.. Hope this helps..

Got it!
Took the action apart and used a long 5/8" wooden dowel and pushed the follower forward until the spring moved the spring keeper forward then I tapped it out the front of the tube with a brass rod. The follower cannot be removed because of dimples in the magazine tube. But I got the spring out and it is as rusty as the rest of the gun so it needs to be replaced.
The piston was almost frozen in with crud. A real mess.
