Help me decide on a single barrel 12-ga
« on: October 31, 2012, 04:12:51 AM »
Hello everyone,

Haven't posted in a long time, as I have been just as long away from the shooting world.

anyways, I am looking for a single barrel, I prefer one of the more modern ones (rossi, NEF, etc), but my only criteria is, I'd like it with a cock on opening mechanism.  Anyone know which brand would have this feature?

thanks in advance

cock-on-opening feature?  Like a Browning BT99?  That's a very nice, and VERY EXPENSIVE single-twelver usually used by trap shooters!

But singleshotguns like a Winchester M37/M37A/M370, Savage-Stevens M94, NEF/H&R, Rossi, and others (even the Ithaca Single-Six lever singleshotgun) ..... all had/have external hammers built into them as part of their safety-features!  Usually for beginners or novice shooters.

I'm only aware (at this time) of the BT99 having a cock-on-opening feature or mechanism.

ADDED:  I knew a 'professional' trap shooter who used a BT99 with a release-trigger ..... dangerous to use if one doesn't know what he's doing.  Also the BT99 looks like a single-barrel Citori in many ways, with and enclosed action.

The singleshotguns I've handle or shot most of them.  Owned about half of them.

One really important feature I like about the H&R singleshotguns is the "button" they open by rather than a LEVER;)

If you can live with a import gun the russian built hammerless single shot is low priced and very rugged.  Remington imported them for a few years then stopped a few years ago I think they were called model SPR 100. You can find them used for under $ 100.00 or Buds Guns sells the new model with black plastic stocks for a little over $100.00. They have a nice feature in that you can select either a auto ejector or extractor with the flip of a lever.

ahhh, I knew I came to the right place :)

Thank you guys... and you are absoloutly correct, the remington spr 100 (now called remington spartan 100) is the one. They are kinda rare tho, gunbroker only showing 1 or 2 listing.

If I can steal one for a 100, I'd be very happy

410 only.
