Old .45 Huntsman

My old .45 Huntsman has giving up the ghost. The last shot I took to unload @ the end of our BP season here in IL . Some thing is broke inside it will not stay cocked. I have not torn it down yet to see what it is. I knew I was pushing it's limits using 90 gr Blackhorn but with that load it shot 2" and under @ 100 yrds. I kept a close eye on it and see no other issues and it could just be normal wear   probly not. But I have several old frames and may even look at fittin to somehthing newer let you know what I find after disassemble. Kurt

Most likely the hammer sear, possibly the trigger if it's not the trigger spring.

Seems I always heard the the muzzle loader barrel didn't put any stress on the frame - like a normal high power cartridge would.   Reason being that the pressure is all contained within the barrel -no cartridge pushing against the breech face
If that's true (?) - then sounds like a simple issue of wear - not related to your load

I believe you are correct but 90gr is very stout load with quite a lot of recoil that is what gives me hope that it's just a wear issue with a spring. Kurt
