Dating an Old H&R
« on: December 27, 2004, 04:55:24 PM »
I am trying to figure out the manufacture date of an old H&R shotgun I have.  I posted on the shotguns forum, but was directed here as this gun apparently is considered more of a collectible.  Here are the specs:  H&R HAMMERLESS 20 ga. shotgun, snap on forend, serial number starts with the letters CH.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Kurt

Nova,
your gun i think is  the no.3 hammerless. they were discontinued in 1942.

QUOTE:
Harrington & Richardson No.3 Hammerless Single Barrel Shotgun
Takedown. Automatic ejector. Guages: 12,16,20,.410
Barrels: plain 26-32 inch full choke. Weight: 6 1/2-7 1/4 pounds depending upon guage and barrel length. Plain pistol grip stock and forend. Discontinued in 1942.

Sounds like you got yourself a real oldie. I love the old H&R's back when they had thier head screwed on straight and the frames were as small and they were as lightweight as possible.

Thanks for the info SSS.  This gun is definitely lighter than the Pardner series made now.  It seems to match up with your description of the No. 3.  Is there any way I could find out exactly what year the gun was made.  I am just kind of curious to know.  Would sending an e-mail to H&R provide any help?

Thanks

I checked a list of ser # dates and they dont even list a C so it is definately old. H&R might be able to help if you send them an email.

Nova:
Were they able to help you with the age of your shotgun?
