cop shot in friendly fire
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:32:19 PM »
Friday in Lakewood, a Denver Suburb on the west, police were investigating gunshots.  One cop went down a fence, another across the fence saw his silhouette and mistook him for a bad guy.  Killed him.  I tried to find a link, but am not good at these things.  Maybe Powderman will find and [post it.

Sad to have this happen for all involved.  Left wife, and 2 kids.

He retired after the second partner shot him.  First fell down with a loaded shotgun and accidently shot him.  The second accidently discharged his service pistol as he fumbled with it in the car and snot him in the hand.

Actually,  he is one of the nicest guys you would meet.  Thanks for your concern 45-70, but he has a plethora of friends.

Unfortunately friendly fire does happen. Haven't been shot by a patrol partner but my partner was playing with the shotgun in the car while it was in the rack. He pulled the trigger and we had a nice fist size hole in the roof.
My sergeant shot himself in the foot, now that was funny.

And this is why only trained professionals such as military and police should be allowed to have firearms... oh wait.  ???

My ex Father in Law in the old country ended up buying a VW bug real cheap when the owner, a "Foerster" pulled a shotgun muzzle first out of the back seat.

Yes sir, both individuals were properly trained by the department and the military. My patrol partner spent 12 years in the Airforce as security police and my sergeant who shot himself in the foot spent 30 years in the Army with the last 25 being Special Forces. So yes only the police and military should be allowed guns. ;D ;D :o ;D

Just wanted to pipe in about the fellow being shot twice it is tragic and by the way calling him a jerk when you don't know him is a bit over the top.

No matter how far back we go it would impossible for you to ever threaten third place.  If we went back to Dali's time it would be impossible to threaten fourth.

What ever happened to the old firearms safety rules from Boy Scouts about being sure of ones target, or the other one about keeping your finger off the trigger until ready to fire, and what about treat and handle ALL firearms as if they are loaded and ready to fire AT ALL TIMES?

Whats really disturbing is how many of you know of similar stories (including myself, but I won't tell). Who the hell hired and trained these goons? No wonder so many people have such little faith in law enforcement.

"Stop pointing that thing at me and put it away, officer. You'll shoot your eye out".  ;D ;D

stats  from memoory
from a guns & ammo article  decades ago....for what its worth
i think  this  is  for  florida shortly after  we got our carry permits

LEO  has  11% ''target misidentification rate''  i assume this means shot the wrong guy?
private citizens  have  a 2%  error.......i assune thats because the home owner  knows who is who

florida citizens  SHOOT 3 times as many felons  as  LEOs

and   we do it with less  error...[my thoughts]

seriously  these guys have a VERY difficult job
but consider this.....how many  laws do they ENFORCE  that are  nobodies business
some where this week some one will  die enforcing  drug or prostitution  or gambling laws

But come on 45-70; The hard line self righteous might feel so unfulfilled if they weren't tryingso diligently (and completely without sin, no less) to get the government (of which they cry about having too much control over THEIR lives) to pass laws that impose religious morality (not that there is anything wrong with morality IMO) upon all people who are different than they. What would they do if they couldn't go out and forcibly save all those consenting adults from themselves.  ::)

Never could figure out why they're so afraid if their conviction is as strong as many of them claim.

As far as enforcing laws prohibiting consensual crimes; well, the cops need something to occupy their time so that they're at least projecting the ILLUSION that they're earning that over inflated pay/benefit/retirement package, instead of goofin' around in a car or court house all day. After all they do make their living off of peoples taxes.

we  ALL  walk a fine line

we would  be in very bad shape without them

we  just need to keep the pressure on them to do better
for their   own good and  ours
the us against  them mentality is detrimental to us all

I think every five years the average Police Officer dealing with the public needs to take a mandatory break.  I've seen to much arrogance and classiness built of over a period of time.......same with medical personal.  Even my LEO friends have become obnoxious power junkies at tines. They literally think they are above the law.

I had that same mentality when I was in the military. Couldn't stand civilians. Funny thing is that I have found life to be far more challenging as a civilian than I ever did a serviceman. Should have stayed in and stuck it out until I retired or caught one. I truly do not belong out here among them; no place for people like me except in the military, a prison, or Davy Jones' locker. But I cope the best I can for my kids.

That five year thing is a good idea although I think they should undergo  a bit of "deprogramming" therapy while they're at it. you know, take "robo-cop" off line for a while.
