22 MAG Ammo
« on: December 25, 2012, 06:18:06 PM »
I went out target shootin and I always have used CCI 22 WMR but ran out and when I went to get more, they were out.  So I got Wincester X 22 MAG and it was all over the target.  I had about 10 CCI's left and hit a 2" group with all 10 shots.  I was very windy with a strong tail wind.  I a couple scope adjusts, but is the big a differnce in CCI and others?  I'll always use CCI from here out but makes it better?  compression?  Thanks everybody

CCI beat Hornaday and Winchester for accuracy in my 22 mag. Can't say why.
But I 'm glad the 40 JSPs were better than 30 gr.

just speculation here, but I would say, just like with centerfires, the combination of the powder used and the priming compound are a big difference.  Also the bullet alloy would make a big difference.  Consistent ignition (primer) and a consistent burn rate (powder or powder blend) combined with bullet to bore fit and friction.

Now exactly why CCI's combination is better than the other brands listed I cannot say, they just did everything right.

EXACTLY Keith!!

WELCOME Dave!!

Every gun is different and every ammo as well... even ammo that shot well can change as lot numbers do!!!

I have a bunch of 22 mag firearms, two of them LOVE reg old CCI 40g HP ammo... Some others not so much.  ::) Only one gun seems to shoot ALL fairly well, but most (most firearms I should say) have there own likes and dislikes.

One new comer that most of mine shoot pretty well is the Newer Hornady 30g V max ammo...

Sorry, missed this.
I have a Savage 93GL (lefty) with a Leupold FX-1 4x scope; its one of my "won't cry if I drop it" guns.

I shoot mostly CCI's in my Henry .22wmr pump rifle (H003TM). The
Fiocci's are pretty good as well. Any bullet weight less than
40 grains does not shoot well in this rifle.
